Select a female character from the Iliad using the part we read or if you are conversant, use the entire book as a source

Iliad Essay Assignment 2014:

Choice 1 :  Select a female character from the Iliad using the part we read or if you are conversant, use the entire book as a source.  The character you select for your persuasive essay should be the single character you believe is essential (or integral) to the story.  In other words, if this character were not in the story, the story could not exist.  Using a persuasive format for your essay, write a paper that supports that statement.  For example if this paper were about The Odyssey, I might select Anteclea, Odysseus’ mother.  My position would be that: Without Anteclea, The Odyssey  the story of Odysseus’ travels, could not have taken place.   My paper would then have at least three reasons for the claim (if I can’t think of 3, I need to pick another character) and at least one or two reasons that refute the claim that I then explain away making my claim even more valid.  See the www for help on how to write a persuasive paper.

Choice 2: Select a male character (see above)

To receive an A on this paper, quotes must be used and correctly cited using MLA format.  You’d need at least three to receive an A or B.  Frankly, it’s only your opinion if you don’t have a quote to back it up.  However, quotes need not come from The Iliad–think outside the box!

Remember:

·

MLA Format (Times New Roman 12 and all that)

·

Quotes are required for an A or B (must be cited)

·

No words we don’t use

·

Paper must be Persuasive format
