Secure Work Environment Proposal

Personnel protection refers to the management of staff in order to facilitate the protection of an organization’s people, safeguard its information and secure its assets. Varieties of measures are available for an organization for the enhancement of personnel security. Employees face numerous security threats at their workplace, which may include, but not limited to, hostility, intimidation and threats from aggressive clients, are victims of terrorist attacks and organized crimes. The firm assets and equipment are also subject to these security concerns and may suffer theft, destruction or interruption of normal working. To safeguard from these vulnerabilities, and ensure they work uninterruptedly and productively, a comprehensive security plan is necessary. This proposal provides such a plan that encompasses different measures at different stages of the organization.

Proposal and Objectives

In line with ensuring security of all personnel, company assets and its information, I have hereby formulated a security proposal that is viable for this firm, and that will solve security threats from any quota. The proposal comprise of different components as the threats faced differ in magnitude, manner and from personnel at different levels of the firm. First is enhanced surveillance throughout the company premises by installation of surveillance cameras at strategic points.Second is the construction of protective barriers and provision of efficient lighting in and around the perimeter of the firm premises. I also propose employment and training of security personnel for the company or hiring of the same services from a proven security firm to stand guard at critical stations around the premises. Personnel education and awareness programs about their safety and that of the organization assets and information will be necessary precautions. Included are the policies whose adoption will facilitatethe effectiveness of these security measures.

Plan of Action

This section presents my approach in achieving the above objectives. Putting into consideration the numerous security hazards that face an employee, and their equally varied and unpredictable sources, the employees will have a great role to play to ensure their own safety. Employees are to be active in ensuring their safety; their participation solves the safety problem (Ariss, 2003).The approach to ensuring secure working environment need both careful planning during enactment and committed vigilance in implementation to ensure success. With regard to these, I have identified the main risk areas and described the appropriate causes of action that guarantee great success in sustaining a secure work environment. The areas that will be of most importance in providing a secure work environment include:

Access Control Procedures for the New Facility

This is the imposition of restrictions against access to space, equipment or any service in the firm until provision of necessary authentication. This ensures enhanced personal safety and protects the firm assets and information.Access control procedures shall provide that every employee acquire a work badge to gain entry into the premises. Depending on risk assessment, access control level shall vary form installation of locks at doors, designation of access control personnel to requirement of key cards before gaining entry. Security guards at the entry points shall enforce the above requirements as well as stop and take appropriate action for any attempted trespass or wrongful entry. These measuresshall ensure unauthorized persons are out of the way of the employees, hence guaranteeing their safety. The firm shall ensure use of strong passwords for all computers, randomly generated for every employee. Most employees use very simple passwords, making them susceptibleto hackers and information burglary. Every employee must follow these strict access procedures without failure to ensure sustainability.

Personnel Security Recommendations

Personnel security involves safeguarding the employee’s personal security and of their possessions. Personnel is the most valuable asset to any organization, therefore, their security is of major importance. Several safety hazards exist ranging from accidents at workplace, violence, burglary or intimidation at or around the workplace. To ensure personnel safety, I propose severalmeasures that include creation of emergency exits and certifying that they are well marked for use during any emergency, all visitors not accompanied shall be subject to requisite security checks to ensure they do not pose any threat to the employees. I propose the creation of a strong room in the firm premises for use during any emergency. In addition, employees will take precautions for their own safety by leaving valuable items at their homes or safekeeping them. For personal safety and health at workplace, every employee will have the necessary protective gear to safeguard against work-related injuries and safety hazards. Finally, I recommend employee training in accidents and emergency response and skills in first aid to equip with necessary skills to deal with security threats they may face.

Inventory Control Considerations

Inventory control sums up as the supervision of supply of a firm’s items, storage of these itemsand ensuring their accessibility in order to facilitate availability with demand and ensure no oversupply. In bid to oversee protection of firm’s assets, proper inventory control is necessary to eliminate fraud or theft. Automation of inventory control systems will guarantee asset safety. Access control and designating inventory control to specific personnel who will be responsible for the safekeeping will reduce instances offraud.

Perimeter and Facility Security

Perimeter and facility security refer to the measures taken in bid tosafeguard firm premises against any unauthorized access, physically or otherwise. It also prevents damage to firm property and hinders any interference on employees, equipment and/or information that interrupt normal working in the firm. Perimeter and facility security will be of appropriate design, which will include properties of strength to eradicate forceful entry, controlled points of entry with security personnel, a receptionist or a fully functional authentication control that will deter unauthorized entry. Alarms and intruder detection systems will be necessary instalments for enhanced security.

Threat and Vulnerability Analysis

Threats refer to any activity that may result in the damage of a system while vulnerability refers to susceptibility, as concern security, to any given hazard.Threat and vulnerabilities to personnel security cover a very wide range and may be impossible for totalelimination at any given time. With regard to this, development of the security proposal involved identification of major threats, evaluating their chances of occurrence and devising of most suitable ways of eliminating them.

Benefits of the Security Plan

Numerous benefits accrue to a firm when it provides its employees security. First is employee retention, the employees repay the appreciation with faithfulness (Melanie & media 2014). Secondly, security ensures employee productivity. Secure employees concentrate more on their work hence increasing their output (Melanie & media 2014). In addition, caring for employees creates a good firm reputation. Customers tend to buy more from responsible firms (Wah, 1998).Finally, responsibility nurtures good relationship with the public. Below standard treatment of employees may result in public outrage (Wah, 1998).

Viability of the Proposal

The viability of this proposal lies in its ability to improve security of personnel and that of the firm all at once. The benefits accruing from its implementation make it even more appropriate and feasible. The fittings executed like the perimeter security will be on long-term basis and will only require occasional maintenance.

Desired Outcomes

Implementation of this proposal will achieve the major goal of providing a secure work environment along with other benefits. These include increased firm productivity, and creation of good firm reputation among the consumers.

Resources Needed

This proposal needs tangible implements like money for the execution of the various security structures, their maintenance and payment of security, personnel to provide for security and fittings like surveillance cameras.

Conclusion

Every employee deserves to work in a secure environment. The implementation of this security proposal will see an end to security concerns, providing a safe working environment for every employee, conducive for peak productivity. It is the duty of the personnel to work unitedly with the management to ensure this security (Monali, 2012). Successful personnel security program is achievable only through the cooperation of management and employee (Ariss, 2003). Hence, the adoption of this proposal, and cooperation of the personnel, will be necessary for security provision in the firm.
