Write a review of a local restaurant that you could post on Yelp.com. Write at least 500
words. Your review must include a description of the food, the service, and the
atmosphere. You must take a picture of one of the dishes you describe in the review and
include it in your document when you submit it.
Assignment Instructions:
1. Eat at a local restaurant. If you have to, you can eat at a restaurant on campus or
eat in the dining hall, but try to go somewhere off-campus if you can.
2. Take notes about your experience. Remember to take notes about the food (how it
looks, how it tastes, how big the portions are, etc.), about the service (How was
the server? Was he or she polite? Friendly? Helpful? Rude?) and the atmosphere
(How did the restaurant look? How was it decorated? What were the restrooms
like? How about the location of the restaurant?).
3. Take a picture of one of your dishes. Remember, you will have to describe this
dish as part of your review. Try to take a picture of you holding the dish so that
you are in the photograph, too.
4. Go home and immediately write your review. You don’t want to wait too long or
else you might forget something. Be truthful – remember, you are writing a
review that you can actually post on Yelp. You want to be fair. Remember, also,
to consider who you are audience is. Who will be reading your review? How can
your language cater to your audience?
5. Include the picture you took in the document. If you can, put the picture near
where you describe it in the text.
6. Edit and revise your review.
