Response to the Game Robin’s Friends
Anna Westerling a Swedish organizer and game designer developed the game Robin’s Friends. In essence, the game is about three friends, Robin, Kim, and Alex, who are going away for a short holiday together to have a good time. Fundamentally, the three characters all have different characteristics, goals, and values. Primarily, three people, who assume the characters of the three friends play the game, under the control of the game master.
Primarily, the game depicts the relationship between the three friends arising from their differences in personality. Alex, who is an attention seeker, is always quarrelling with Kim, who is a rather organized person. After their numerous disagreements, they always talk to Robin, who is a caretaker, one at a time about it. Coincidentally, Alex and Kim do not know that Robin is sick and is about to die, and that is the reason he invited them over for a bonding getaway. After Robin’s funeral, the three friends meet but this time they play knowing that Robin is sick. Interestingly, this time round, the friends meet and talk about their insecurities and comfort each other. From playing this game, I deduced that in a noble friendship, people should be able to express themselves and show their flaws, secure in the understanding that they are loved. In addition, friendship is also about being there for each other and being part of a group where every person in the group has a different role. Moreover, playing this game invoked my emotions, and I realized that very often we become so engrossed in our personal challenges that we overlook the problems our friends are facing in life.
