Nottingham City Council’s Approach to Sustainable Transport Strategy: Promoting Public Passenger Transport, cycling and walking
1.Describe Sustainable Transport Policy, including a brief history of how it has emerged and why sustainability is viewed with ever increasing
importance. You should not consider Nottingham City Council in this section, but consider a wider view, such as the strategies being developed by
central government and even wider initiatives.
2.Choose a mode of transport from public passenger transport, cycling or walking and describe in broad terms how each is promoted. You should
consider infrastructure improvements and softer measures such as campaigns by the likes of Sustrans and Campaign for Better Transport.
3.Describe Nottingham City Council; how it is organised and in particular where transport strategy and other related strategies sit within its
structure. You should consider including the Councils relationship with external organisations and governmental departments in the delivery of its
transport strategy.
4.Choose an example of how Nottingham City Council delivers projects on your chosen mode of transport. You should consider investigating funding
sources and any possible influence from external organisations, including campaign groups. You should consider explain how your case study / example
sits within the Councils transport and other strategies.
5.Critically evaluate you case study / example set out in part 4.
