Is the use of ‘nudge theory’ a good use of psychological knowledge?
Order Description
-Define what is thought to be good use e.g. in terms of science (is the science good enough to support its use and what kind of use) or..?
-Could start by introducing Thaler and Sustein and what how they define ‘libertarian paternalism’ and nudge. Are nudges simultaneously ‘libertarian’ and paternalist? Or can they not co-exist? Do current nudges reflect the outlook of libertarian paternalism? Is there a problem with this concept?
-Critically evaluate it’s concept/theory, effectiveness
-Also interpret it as matters of ethics, trust and legitimacy.
-It’s usefulness, internal consistency of the theory, cost-benefits involved, social acceptability or implications.
-Try not to focus on nudge on the business side, focus on nudge as a behavioural science, its role in policy making or health promotion.
