This research paper shall address the question “is Iran nuclear program a threat to world national security?” In this paper, we shall discuss the Iran Nuclear policy from the hypothesis that, there is eminent danger on world peace posed by the present nuclear building programmes in Iran as the government fails to honour the peace treaties in place. The position of the presidency and thus theocratic rule shall also be discussed as one of the impediments that come in the way of disarmament and the achievement of world peace as a result.
According to the Haaretz, the Iranian nuclear weaponry building remains a contentious issue due to the policies held by the Tehran government (Haaretz, 2013). It is important to note that the government has advanced rapidly in terms of nuclear arms development in the first decade claiming that they are for use for peaceful civilian purposes. However, opposing opinions are held by most of the western nations that the programmes are put in place for nuclear weapon development.
It is also imperative that Iran has emphasized that it is a signatory state regard the nuclear non-proliferation treaty and held that it has the right to develop uranium rich inventions for civilian purposes. To this end, the United States and other western nations have come together and created incentive towards Iran to persuade them to abandon their nuclear development programmes. On the receiving end, Iran has been receiving sanctions from around the globe and thus suffered economic sabotage from the various global trading partners (Venter, 2005).
Over the recent past, Saudi Arabia and Israel have been among the most embittered countries by the move made by Obama regard negotiations with Iran regard the nuclear programmes. The agreement that described a six-month deal is inclusive of certain limitations that will see Iran watched from creating a nuclear weapon (ADL 100, 2013). It is imperative that despite the United States policy of no-negotiations with terrorist or related activity, the president has went an extra mile with Iran to see an end to nuclear weaponry development for sustainable world peace.
Among the threats posed by a nuclear armed Iran include; an aggressive foreign policy that would result to more confrontations and potentially lead to war. Secondly, as one of the world largest terrorist sponsors, Iran is known to pose a threat through sharing technology with terrorist groups such as the Hamas, Hezbolah and others (ADL 100, 2013). Thirdly, Iran’s nuclear armament is a major threat to the United States security because it is a potential allie to the united states enemies in the middle east. Due to the energy position held by Iran, it is imperative that nuclear weaponry building by Iran would spark a nuclear arms race amongst the Middle East states (ADL 100, 2013).
In conclusion, it is imperative that Iran’s building of nuclear arms is one of the greatest challenges that face world peace today. This is because the country lacks a sound government that does not embrace the core values of democracy.
