Just make sure that as you go through the questions you are looking at the correct figures pertaining to each particular question. For example, in the Applications

section, if a question is asking you about the wind speed at a certain location on the 500-mb chart, then make sure that you are finding this information using Figure

6 (the 500-mb chart) rather than Figure 7 (the 300-mb chart)!

The wording of Question 6 could be better. Basically, what you want to examine in Figure 1 is the depth of the thermocline in the eastern Pacific. The thermocline is

closer to the ocean surface in the eastern Pacific than it is in the western Pacific. In other words, the thermocline is ________ in the eastern Pacific than it is in

the western Pacific.

The answer you are looking for when you get to Question 15 of Inv. 9B can be found by viewing the Warm Episode Relationships December €“ February image.

There is a typo in the last sentence of the paragraph that separates Questions 19 and 20. The sentence should read: For example, at 110 W longitude the two actual

winds (upper panel) were from the southeast while the anomalous winds (lower panel) were very small, meaning that they were essentially average.

For Question 27, make sure that you are looking at Figure 7! The question asks you to compare Figure 7 with several of the other figures.

fill the spaces.
