• Meet the submission guidelines for the inquiry
• Identify current research, best practice and evidence on the policy area
• Provide advice and make recommendations to the inquiry based on your understanding of the policy history, political environment and the available evidence.
Assessment Task – Criteria
Argumentation
1) Problem is clearly identified, key points are well-developed, opposing perspectives are enunciated and refuted, recommendations are logical, feasible and prioritised
2) Well-developed links between the problems identified, the research base, and the recommendations proposed.
Research
3) Demonstrates awareness of existing evidence, ability to synthesize and integrate information from a variety of sources
4) Able to communicate insights from evidence and research in plain English
Structure
5) Clear and logical structure abiding by the Inquiry specifications
6) Addresses some or all of the Terms of Reference. If the submission does not address all the Terms, a considered justification is provided
Mechanics
7) Spelling, grammar and language use (including sentence and paragraph construction)
8) Meets submission requirements of the inquiry (Terms of Reference are included as an appendix)
Note:
I suggested that you could use other submissions to the inquiry you have chosen to get a sense of the evidence other similar organisations (to your assumed organisation – who you are writing the submission on behalf of) are using to make their case. The idea then is that you access the piece of research or grey literature, via the reference they provide, read it – then make a decision if you can use this piece of research or not.
You absolutely MUST NOT use text from or reference other submissions to the inquiry you are submitting to.
