Initiative 522 and the Media

Next month, Washington State voters will decide the fate of Initiative 522, a measure to require the labeling of foods containing genetically modified ingredients. An intensive media campaign is currently underway to persuade voters on this initiative.

Investigate the use of media for this campaign. Which media are being used most prominently? Which are the most effective in persuading you? Who are the sponsors of the media messages and, if you can find out, how much are they spending? What kinds of persuasive appeals are being used?

This is a class on mass media, and the objective is to measure your ability to use media to inform yourself about a political issue and to analyze the media messages being used.
