Information of JADE from Neolithic period to Han dynasty

A written exercise in keeping with the nature of the course and its role in undergraduate (and graduate) education will count for 20% of the final grade. The topic of the paper should relate in some way to art, to history, and to Chinese culture. It should be chosen by the individual student with that student’s interests, preparation, and skills in mind, but in consultation with Prof. Rorex. To phrase it slightly differently, the paper topic should be focused on matters/issues of personal interest to the student while also being directly concerned with Chinese art and culture. The actual work of researching and writing the paper will in large measure depend on the topic and the individual student’s interests and goals. As an exercise, the format of a traditional research paper is welcomed, with footnotes, bibliography, and illustrations; but exceptions may be made. For example, a student may wish to present a formal written review (book review; exhibition review). As a review it would offer a critique (of the book or exhibition) rather than a mere summarization or description. Or it might operate even more critically, to call attention to errors of fact and/or faulty interpretation.
