Individual Reflective essay

Individual Reflective essay
A personal reflection on how you and your group performed in the preparation for and delivery of the Business Innovation Development Project and the management of the final contribution award meeting. The essay should include how this relates to the theory of groups and teams, what you have learnt from this experience and how you will use this learning in the future.

Tips on reflective writing

All of us reflectively learn every day. We have experiences, we think about them and sometimes we change our behaviour as a result of this reflection. However, most of us do not formalise this process by putting it into writing. This assessment is asking you to reflectively learn but in a more formal way.

Reflective writing for this assessment involves four elements:

€¢ A very brief description of what happened with links to relevant theory
€¢ A brief summary of how you felt about what happened
€¢ A statement of what you have learnt from this
€¢ Feed forward €“ an outline of how you will use this learning in the future (being as specific as possible), with links to theory if appropriate.

You may find this personal reflection easier if you consider some of the following types of questions: Those marked in bold with an * are essential to consider:

STEP 1 €“ ACTIONS
When you were working as a group: Who did what and how?; Who said what and how?: who reacted in what ways?: How were decisions made?: Who took what roles?: What was your role in the group?
*How did practice reflect the theory of groups and teams?

STEP 2 €“ FEELINGS
How did you feel about the actions of the group? Which parts of group working did you enjoy and why? Which parts of group working did you not enjoy and why? How did you react to conflicts which occurred?
*How would you rate your contribution to the group and why?

STEP 3 €“ LEARNING
What new insights have you gained about yourself? What have you learnt about how others work in groups? What have you learnt about how groups and teams operate?
*What are the one or two most important things you have learnt from this experience?
STEP 4 €“ FEED FORWARD
What would you do the same in a similar situation? What will you do differently next time you are in a similar situation? What opportunities exist for you to use this learning?
*How will this experience influence your future activities?

General tips

Many people find it helps to keep a diary of events or journal whilst you are working in your group.

As with your presentation you will need to be selective in the material you choose for your essay. A highly descriptive piece of work, or a summary of theory straight from textbooks, will not be sufficient to pass this assessment; you must demonstrate application of the theory.

HERE is just telling you how our group was going on it explain exactly who we are, our team roles & responsibilities how each member was contributing and some of the problems that were going on around our group. You don’t have to add everything I mentioned below this is just for you to have an idea please add examples and theories as much as possible just keep it to 1500 words and please don’t explain a lot about the idea you don’t even have to mention it that’s just for you to know how the group was going. Some of the theories that I want to be on there is perception, leadership and management, teamwork, perception, conflict, power, and some more that you can add. Reference the work with different types of sources. A minimum of 8 references.

We are a group of five members we are working on business innovation development project, we I’m Muneera Al-Thani I’m from Qatar I’m The operation manager, planner as well as researcher, Our group leader is Hasret Salman she is from Turkey she’s a leader and a researcher, Abitha Santhakumar is originally from Sri Lanka she is the Finance Manager and Researcher, Aimee Gedge is from the united kingdom the Marketing Manager and a Researcher and Derrick Adofo is originally from south Africa he is the Critical Risk Manager.

In the first three weeks we met once a week in a not suitable place to study. Instead of meeting at the library we met at Costa trying to discuss ideas on what will our project be about. We wasted three weeks with no work but talk. We did not assign any team roles, however we managed on the third week to come up with an idea after Hasret which was not assigned a group leader yet asked us each one of you tell me what is the most famous thing that your country/culture/tradition is known about’ after a long talk we all found that all the countries had something in common which is the inspiration of our grandmothers healthy lifestyle and their special blended juice remedies which has high medical advantage.
After we got the idea we didn’t meet at all reasons were because a member cant make it to the meeting the whole meeting gets canceled I was so frustrated but I wasn’t able to do anything about it then came Christmas break and we were back for two weeks and no would ever make the effort to attend. Our group was way behind. I was trying to get everyone to meet but then we had to speak to our tutor Lindsay to help us with our problem we had so much problem in the beginning but by the end of January we managed to solve this problem with the help of our tutor talking to Derrick who was the most one who weren’t attending and wasn’t to doing any of the work required. Slowly we were able to get back on track and I made it clear to the group that we had to assign team roles before we start anything as it is very important to know our roles and responsibilities I assigned Hasret as a leader as she had the qualities to speak up and organize meeting and she was the closest one to everyone. No one disagreed with my decision. After that we all discussed and saw who’s stronger at what and after that we assigned are roles and that’s step 1 done we had to meet more than once a week to get the work done as we were short in time we all knew what we’re doing accept of Derrick who was totally lost All the four of us tried helping him and we used team work to help each other if any one was stuck we were contacting each other most of the time on the group chat that Aimee created via whatsapp that was really helpful as it helped organizing the group. Yes we had a very short time as we lacked experience of group work and for some of us it was the first time to work as a group but we managed after that to get the work done on the time assigned. But towards the end comes the problems again and from who from derrick. We were prerecording our presentation and Hasret the team leader made it very clear that on Tuesday 25th of march we will be recording the presentation so we could have Wednesday the day before the actual presentation to edit our recording. Comes Tuesday and Derrick comes up with his excuses that he wont be able to come record and he will be recording on wed which is a day before the presentation. It was a big mistake from the beginning to keep the recording two days before the presentation. But overall we managed to get everything done on time it was a bit stressful and but it was a great experience as I learned a lot from it for example (teamwork, how time is from gold that we don’t have to waste any second and that we have to keep track of our group meeting and that if there is a small problem or a thought that is worrying you address it you wont loose anything, and don’t leave anything to the last minute and most importantly that dont treat a person based on your perception for example in our first meeting when hasret asked me tell me whats your country know of I was just about to answer but Derrick jumped in and said slavery’ just because I’m wearing a scarf and that I come from a muslim country I was hurt at the moment but I didn’t speak a word and let it go as that’s what I always do.””
