Indicators of good team experience
Working as a team is an important factor as it enables the participants to obtain different ideas and fact regarding the subject of the discussion. For a team to succeed, many interpersonal skills are necessary to enable the team members have a variety of ideas for the issues they are addressing. There are a number of factors that determine whether a team will succeed or fail in coming up with the best conclusions. The indicators of a good team experience are personal commitment, a common goal, communication, and clarity of roles, members’ attitudes, listening skills, willingness to speak, and flexibility.
One indicator for a good team member is personal commitment as it helps in the creation of a learning culture from other team members. Everybody in the team has a fair idea of the subject of discussion and should feel free to offer it for debate. Personal commitment enables the team members to have a successful discussion, as the members are willing to share their ideas and argue the subject of discussion. Good team members will listen carefully as the others give their views and ideas. After listening it is good for them to speak and give their opinions concerning the subject of discussion. Passive team members are a nuisance to the team as they depend on the other member’s ideas without arguing their part. Effective team members take their responsibility seriously and respect each other’s opinions and suggestions.
Flexibility is an important aspect of teamwork since somebody must be willing to learn from one another and appreciate each other’s ideas. Some unreliable members want to do anything in their way and drag the team’s activities. Flexible and good candidates are the best in forming a reliable and successful team.
Team members should always have a common goal in which all have a shared vision concerning their team’s activities. Aggressive team members will always make the make the group’s work successful as little time is consumed when everybody participates willingly. All members should have a common focus to achieve the goals of the group within the shortest time possible. A group that has divided opinions will not achieve its objectives and is likely to disintegrate before carrying out its core activities.
Member’s attitude towards the group activities or the group members affects the performance of teams whether large or small. Any barriers such as hatred among the group members will compromise the quality of the work done by the group members since someone might not appreciate the work of the members. For a team to succeed, members should have a positive attitude towards each other and respect each other’s opinion. There are some cases here members argue until they fight or the group disintegrate because of simple disagreements. A good team has a leader that leads the others with honesty and commitment to achieve the group’s target. Respect of competition is important as the members try to defend their points and arguments.
My recent team experience for our business presentation project was good as everybody played his or her parts in developing the project. First, the team had unity regardless of the member’s state of origin with the main goal of achieving our objectives at the end of the discussion. Each of the members as ready to learn from the other members and we all gave each other a chance to give their views and argue them. I loved the aggressiveness that each group member had and the desire to speak without any fear. Indeed, the discussion as like a debate as e all argued our points to strengthen their meaning. The members of our group had a lot of personal commitment, and we avoided lateness and absenteeism to enable us complete our work within the stipulated period. Everybody had a good attitude to the group activity, and no one opposed the topic suggested for the business project. We all tried to give it the best and aimed at having the best presentation in our class.
However, there some problems that affected the effectiveness of the activities such as the language barrier that existed among the members. I had trouble especially during the presentation due to the language challenges. Using some terms correctly gave me a hard time as I lacked fluency and mastery of some vocabularies. To solve the problem and avoid future challenges especially regarding the language. I intend to work hard in perfecting my speaking and writing skills to achieve a high level of fluency. Another thing that can help me in solving my language challenges is registering for a language class or having a private tutor to coach me in perfecting my skills. I believe I can enjoy more if I can do my presentation with fluency as it will keep everyone in the room attentive.
