In Descartes First Meditation he affirms a method of “hyperbolic doiubt,” meaning that he will doubt all that he can conceive as being doubtful. He will doubt the evidence of senses, the reality of being awake or asleep, or even that there is an “Evil Demon,” which tricks him into believing things which are not the case.
