Impact of the Affordable Care Act

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has a great effect in ay health care provider, and other effects are projected in the future. Among the effects on health care providers is the return of old Medicaid patients (Sung & Gray, 2014). The nurses have not been spared by the effects, and being a practicing nurse, I am also affected, and I am likely to be affected in the future.

The ACA is a program that is revolutionizing health care provision in the United States at a very high rate. The Advanced Nursing Education Expansion Program is on one of the issues that the ACA has touched on. My colleagues, who qualified for the program have already joined for further training. I also plan to join the program in the future to benefit from the kitty set aside for training nurses at an advanced level. As a practicing nurse, I have also realized that some of my old Medicaid patients are coming back. They are confident they will be able to pay for the care charges (Levitt, 2014). Additionally, with an emphasis on better health care, there has been a lot of efforts to improve healthcare provision.

In the future, the shortage of nurses is expected to rise in the public sector. This is because the program is likely to attract more patients to the U.S health care system. At the same time, private practice will also be attractive to the health care providers. The medical homes are likely to pull a good number of practitioners out of public practice. I think I am one of the nurses who will have left the public sector for private practice. Medicare re-reimbursement is expected to stabilize, enhancing private practice (Sung & Gray, 2014).
