Introduction:
Sur University College (SUC) is one of the higher education providers of Sultanate of Oman. Since the inception 2001, the college recruits the faculties, teaching staffs and admin staffs based on the time to time requirements. As the college is expanding its wings towards various directions to contribute to Oman Vision 2020, it needs to set, articulate, develop and implement new techniques and strategies. This study will explore the existing flaws in the current system and identify the required strategies that need to be implemented to fulfill the college’s vision and mission.
Current Scenario of HR management in SUC
SUC has developed a first Five Years Strategic Plan 2009 – 2014 with a goal to maintain high quality human resources. The college developed an action plan with respect to the above set goal with 10 objectives. SUC formed two different committees at college level: Academic Employment Committee and Admin Employment Committee. The job opportunities are identified whenever there is a need and the recruitments are conducted based on the requirements.
Though, SUC could maintain high staff retention in admin level, it is striving hard to maintain high staff retention at academic areas. As the college is dealing with student’s future, it is developing new plans to maintain the required staff ratio with respect to local requirements.
Problem Statement:
The admin and academic staff members leave the college in the middle of the semester and it affects the whole system to maintain the required ratio and tasks completion. Though, there are huge numbers of admin staff, they are not properly distributed to the different departments to meet the workloads.
Entities and Factors of SUC
SUC is a higher education institution which offers diploma and bachelor programs in 3 specializations in Business, 2 specializations in Information Systems & Technology and 2 specializations in Engineering. Apart from that, SUC has General Foundation Program which includes the general requirements of the students. The students are the main stakeholders of the college. SUC has more than 15 administrative departments and units to provide necessary and sufficient administrative supports to the stakeholders. The local community, industries and other public and private sectors plays a vital role in the development of the college by providing job opportunities. Hence, SUC considers the whole Sultanate of Oman as its stakeholder.
Hypothesis:
For this study, the following two hypotheses are set.
Hyp 1: SUC has high staff turnover during the recent years.
Hyp 2: SUC has significantly high staff satisfaction at all level.
Research Methodology:
The secondary data will be collected from the various sources such as Strategic Plan, SUC website and other documents. To measure the staff satisfaction, a questionnaire will be distributed to all staff members and the primary data will be collected. The feedbacks will be analyzed using statistical analyses such as: Descriptive Analysis, t – test, Correlation and Regression Analysis. Either SPSS or Megastat will be used for the analysis.
