An opening section that introduces the book: This should include the title, the author?s name, any relevant information about the author, a brief explanation of the book?s thesis/main point, a situation of the book in its context (is it new/old? written in response to something? written for what kind of audience?).
A section that *briefly* summarizes the contents of the book. Remember that this is a book review, not a summary, so this section should be brief indeed. Just long enough to give somebody who has not read the book an idea of what it is about.
An evaluation of the book. What are its strengths and weaknesses? Is the analysis backed up with the evidence? Is the author offering new evidence? Or is s/he working with existing literature? How does the author deal with counter-evidence? What new perspective does the book offer? How is it valuable for us?
A conclusion, perhaps with some final commentary about who might enjoy this book (in other words, is it a good choice for a general reader, an undergraduate class, specialists, etc).
