A dollar distribution plan allocates the percentages from the budget across each department according to product demand
for each type. Retail merchandise planners focus on a department in the store to create an inventory plan. Each retailer will
differ in how it allocates its hierarchy of departments, classifications, price points, styles and colors.
Assignment Details
Case scenario: You are the merchandise planner for a large specialty store that is part of a chain of about 250 stores.
Because your specialty store is a small boutique rather than a larger department store, many of the items in the store are
kept in small amounts, which can result in understock. In addition to certain stock keeping units (SKUs) selling out, you are
having issues with the new inventory arriving in a timely manner.
Part 1: Complete the percent to dollar distribution plan (inventory plan)
Step 1: Click here to download the U3 IP Template Excel File. Save the template to your desktop. Name your file
“lastname_firstname_U3IP.”
Step 2: Click here to download the fact sheet that will give you the data needed to complete the Excel sheet tab labeled
“Distribution of Shirts.”
Part 2: Complete the color and size allocation (assortment plan)
In the same U3 IP template, click on the tab labeled “Color & Size Allocation,” and distribute all styles, colors, and sizes
according to the percent allocations. Remember to show all formulas and calculations with no errors. Formulas must be
correct in the Excel sheet.
