Five Approaches: Problem, Purpose, and Questions

Five Approaches: Problem, Purpose, and Questions

For this week’s Discussion, you examined the five approaches to qualitative research and selected the one that best suited the research problem, purpose, and questions you developed in Week 2. For this Application, you will reverse your thinking by examining each of the approaches individually and writing a paper in which you develop and defend a research problem, purpose, and questions that would fit each approach.

To prepare for this Application:
• Review the required reading for this week in Qualitative Inquiry and Research Design: Choosing Among Five Approaches. Analyze the five approaches presented by Creswell.
• Review your response to this week’s Discussion.
• For each of the five main approaches:

o Analyze the approach.
o Develop a research problem, research purpose, and research questions.
o
? For one approach, use your Final Project topic. For example, if you identified grounded theory as the best approach for your qualitative research plan for this course, then use the research questions you developed for it (and develop a research problem and purpose). You would not need to develop an additional problem, purpose and questions for grounded theory.
o Defend why the problem, purpose, and questions fit with this approach.

• Craft a 5- to 7-page paper in which you do the following:

o For each of the five main approaches:
o
? Analyze the approach.
? Develop a research problem, research purpose, and research questions.
? Defend why the problem, purpose, and questions fit with the approach
