For each of the mutations below, which mutation is more likely to disrupt the structure of a protein (that is, make a mutant protein that is less stable than the nonmutant protein)? In each case, explain your reasoning.
A. A mutation which changes a Lys (nonmutant protein, called the “wild type” protein ) to a Gln (mutant protein) or one which changes a Leu (wild type protein) to a Gln (mutant protein).
B. A mutation which changes a Phe (wild type protein) to a Gly (mutant protein) or one which changes a Phe (wild type protein) to a Leu (mutant protein).
C. A mutation which changes a Pro (wild type protein) to a Gly (mutant protein) or one which changes a Gly (wild type protein) to a Pro (mutant protein).
