To select a director and view his movies. EVALUATE THE AUTEUR THEORY COMPARE AND CONTRAST THE FILMS OF AN AUTEUR.Write a five to six page essay that includes all of the following, not necessarily in this order:
1) an overview, explanation, critique, and overall assessment of the auteur theory, especially as it applies to your chosen director
2) a short, relevant biography (personal, professional, political) of the director and what, if any, influences are apparent in the films
3) a short synopsis of each of the films discussed
4) a stylistic comparison/contrast of each film, where relevant, in terms of mise en scene, editing, lighting, sound, music, camera movement, acting styles, settings
5) a comparison/contrast of the films’ evident themes
6) a chronological comparison/contrast of the films, from earliest to most recent
7) a discussion of the director’s other contributions to the film (writing, editing, producing, acting, cinematography, set design, etc.)
8) a discussion of significant collaborations with actors, cinematographers, editors, writers, etc.
9) a discussion of the director’s relative in/dependence in relation to the studio system or mainstream movie industry
10) if relevant, a discussion of the films’ genres
11) a summat ion of the director’s central themes and achievements in film style, and, ultimately, his or her merit as an auteur
12) a bibliography
