Field Study

I choose to do the field study at my local library. Ensuring reliability of the information provided and equality in the information provided are the main ethical issues in this site. The librarians must ensure that the information that is provided in the library materials is from reliable sources. The librarian must also ensure that the information is accessible to all without bias. This can be addressed by having reserve books which can only be used in the library without borrowing and hence all people will have access to them.

The busiest time in the library is in the evening between 4.00- 5.00 P.M, many people who are present at this time are students and small companies’ employees in the neighborhood. There is minimal interaction between the people who come here to study as there are sufficient library attendants. Many people come and collect their reading material they are interested in and then settle by themselves. Each person will look for the position that is least crowded and settle there with their reading material with minimal or no communication with the rest.

The most significant objects on this library were the reading materials, the library could operate without everything else but it had to have the materials for internal reading or to be borrowed. I learnt that the materials that were provide must have had been passed by the library board. I never knew there was any control over the materials that were provided in the library. Almost all people who came in the library were between early youth or middle age. Most of the people who come to the library are either doing research for their assignments or they are following up performance of different companies.

I was able to remain neutral in my observations as I even had to consult with the librarian about their systemswhile determining the reliability of the books they provided.

The library is a quiet cool place to do some studies for both students and non-students. The main analysis is the availability of different books and also up to date journals that are important to both students and non-students.

I had to address the issue of the reliability of the materials that are provided. I went ahead and approached the librarian who explained to me how they ensure that the materials they provide are of high quality.
