From the inception of vampire theories to this day, the interest and fascination of this genre of movies has been rising to unimagined levels. However, the reason the interest is increasing at a time where the AIDS pandemic has ravaged the society remains a mystery to many. This implies that this phenomenon need to be studied more vis-à-vis the AIDS pandemic because they seem to relate. In essence, looking at the social aspect of this concept seems to be the viable phenomenon in understanding the similarity between the fear of vampirism and AIDS. Moreover, the biology of these concepts will also help in the study. The Blade (1998) and The Underworld will help in understanding the fear of vampirism and AIDS in the current society.
From Blade (1998), Frost states, “he wants to be a vampire god.” In another instance, he states “…they are not our allies but our food.” These statements show evidence of how the vampires were the greatest human nemesis. The same way, since the identification of AIDS, the illness has become a nemesis for human lives.
From The Underworld (2003), Singe states that … combine bloodlines for years.” However, they failed in their endeavor. Viktor states, “There cannot be a union between a Lycan and a vampire.” These quotes show how these species will remain as enemies forever with one deemed to destroy the other. The fear of AIDS stems from the same concept mainly because no matter the efforts done to make it less lethal to human lives it remains as the most lethal killer in the history of human beings.
