Factors Impacting Spouse of a Chronically Ill Patient
Part 1
Read the following article on multiple sclerosis:
Courts, N. F., Newton, A. N., & McNeal, L. J. (2005). Husbands and wives living with
multiple sclerosis. Journal of Neuroscience Nursing, 37(1), 20–27.
Which factor has the greatest impact on the spouse (not including caregiving) of a chronically ill patient? Why? How would things be different if the goals of the patient and that of his or her spouse or family are opposing? How a patient’s concept of quality of life influences their plan of care? Explain with relevant examples.
Part 2
Do a Google search for a blog post written by a patient with a chronic illness. What stands out to you about how this person is coping or adjusting? How does this person discuss quality of life, body image, sexuality, or powerlessness? Are this person’s writings congruent with the literature? Justify your response with the readings or articles from the South University Online Library.
