Using the videos we watched in class AND the Barbara Demick book “Nothing To Envy”, along with at least 3 other sources (at least 1 of which is academic, scholarly, peer reviewed), write a 4-6 page essay which considers the above contentions. Choose a political, economic, or cultural concern that you feel is important to North Korean society. Explain how the issue (propaganda, spying, reforms to the economy, fleeing the country, the nuclear buildup, the food shortages, etc.) has shaped North Korean society. How hopeful are you that North Korea will solve these problems?

Papers should include in-text, parenthetical citations in proper MLA or APA form, along with an appropriate bibliography or Works Cited papge. Given the brief nature of the assignment, the topic should be discussed as narrowly as possible. In other words, though the topics queried above are quite broad, your papers should address a specific aspect of the issues raised here.
