Executives should not earn a high income when their companies are losing money. If a company is losing money, it means that it has less money to pay for its staff and for the cost of production of the goods and services that they deal with. This may not be a question about morals but, morals do play a huge part. They will earn the huge salary at the expense of something else. That money could be used in reviving the company or ensuring that the company gets back on its feet. According to functionalists, it is reasonable for the executives to earn such huge amounts of salary because of the rare talent that they bring into the company, the functional theorist argue that their talent is what makes the company better and bigger.

The golden parachute gives the opportunity to executives to leave the company unharmed with clean reputations whenever a company fails. The executive is able to obtain employment in another place as a senior executive and continue earning a huge income. These clauses may be detrimental to the company. They may cause the individual not to work hard enough since they will always have somewhere to go ad their reputations would not be tarnished at all. They will be able to work in another company. The executive may also feel that he isindispensable and therefore not work as hard as he should. A shareholder who has the golden parachute on the other hand, will try as much as he can to ensure that the company is successful so that they can reap maximum profits. An employee who has he golden parachute may not work so hard since they feel that they cannot be fired at any time.

The increases in the executives’ compensation have led to huge differences in the standards of living of the people. The gap between the rich and the poor has significantly increased. The poor people will remain poorer while the rich people grow richer. There is a population that is very rich while there is another that is extremely poor. These changes have affected my family in that there are places that nor everyone can go because they are for the rich.

Media concentration

I listen to CNN most of the time. It is owned by Turner Broadcasting system. There are concerns about the media concentration. If the entire media is owned by a single person or company, they are likely to be biased and report only on issues that affect them either directly or indirectly. If a large section of the media is owned by the government. The government will most likely censor the things that they want the people to know and what it does not require them to know. It would be impossible to get an unbiased view of what is happening with the government. A monopoly is a company which has the sole rights of producing a certain good or product.it is normally the only company producing such products in the entire country. Due to their state of monopoly and the fact that people cannot get the goods from anywhere else, they may end up producing substandard goods. They do not really care much about the customers as they have all the advantage in the market. In the same way, if the government has the monopoly of the media, they are likely to be very biased and fail to report on the issues that affect the people. They are likely to report only on issues that portray them in a positive light.

The trend towards the media is affecting the traditional types of media negatively. People no longer read the manual or physical newspaper but would prefer to read the same newspaper on the internet. Due to this newspaper have experience losses I the sales of their newspaper and have had to go digital. The trend on the internet however, has been on the increase since it is much more easily accessible than the print media. It is very hard for the government to try and regulate the trend on the internet because it is hard to find out the identity of the writer. Therefore, in a country where people are censored through the media, the media may be a convenient place for them to express their opinions.

Precarious work

Precarious work is where a person is not able to hold on to a job for a long time due to lack of job security. Many companies prefer to outsource services instead of hiring a worker to do the particular work. This way, most people end up losing their jobs. Besides, companies rarely provide their employees with e benefits that they had before such as medical cover and other allowances. Employees are increasingly required to cater for almost all their bills including retiring benefits. People who are most affected by the precarious work conditions are the people from minority work groups. I have a friend who has been unemployed in the last six months. The man has a degree in economics from a good university yet has failed to secure proper employment since he is black. Blacks are usually discriminated against when it comes to jobs. Most employers prefer to employ white people since they are considered more reliable andhardworking and this is always not the case. The issue of discrimination is so rampant and the conditions given to a black person are different to the conditions given to a white person yet they are applying for the same job.

As a student who is looking forward to getting employment, it is wise that I come up with a strategy that would help me attain long term employment. It is never safe to depend on someone for employment as you can be fired at any time when you are most vulnerable. There is nothing like secure employment in the world today as there are many people with the same skills and there will always be someone more knowledgeable about a particular subject than you. The only way that one can ensure that they have a secure source of income is opening up a business. This way, I will be my own boss and even get the opportunity to employ a few people. It is common knowledge that business is tough and therefore I plan to work very hard to ensure that the business flourishes and succeeds.

Right to privacy

I would be very confused at first at the knowledge that the government was monitoring my use of mass media. It is wrong for other people to pry in the privacy of other people. I do very personal things in the mass media, internet that not even close family members and friends know. It would be frightening to imagine that someone who I do not even recognize has been seeing what I have been doing. There are very personal things and it is scary to imagine that someone knows about them. Being a very private person, it is improper for anyone to access another person’s usage of internet or mass media if they do not have a good reason to do so.

If my safety was in jeopardy, I would be willing to sacrifice my privacy. Despite my personal feelings on privacy, if my life were at stake, then I would most probably reveal it. Nothing is more precious than life itself and it would be useless to protect privacy and lose life in the process. But even then, I would try to minimize the damage as much as I can. There are things that I would want to keep to myself and if I have to share the details with someone else, then I have to make sure, that they will keep it to themselves.

In my opinion, cybercrime is the biggest threat to the society. This is because cybercrime happens so fast even before the victim is able to realize what is happening. The victim may end up incurring huge losses because of cybercrime. It is normally very hard to capture a criminal who has participated in cybercrime. By the time a criminal robs someone on the internet, it means that they are very experienced and will leave no evidence that they can be nabbed in. they could even have used fake names making it very hard to find them.
