1. You are the maintenance engineer at a new special forces unit operating a fleet of forward air control aircraft. You are
to prepare a document outlining the nature of the maintenance management system that ensures the unit assets (forward air
control aircraft) are available for the operational tasking that will be placed on the unit.
2. The unit operates during the daytime as well as at night and there needs to be sufficient aircraft available for the next
scheduled period of operation.
3. Ensure lessons from the investigation into the cause of the April 2005 Australian RAN Sea King helicopter N16-100 crash on
the Indonesian island of Nias are applied to the new units maintenance management system. Review the Australian RAN Sea King
accident board of inquiry and identify why the engineering management system failed to prevent the accident and where the
lessons have been applied in your approach.
4. Describe the required engineering management activities and how the various aspects of the proposed maintenance systems
will link arrangements for maintaining individual aircraft and also the management of the fleet as a whole. Also include how
this relates to certification and risk assessment.
