Paper instructions:
1) Take a look at the U.S. Energy Sources chart located on page 15 of the CH-5 Energy Powerpoint presentation (in the Unit 2 Presentations folder). Note the total annual energy usage: 91.4 Quad BTUs. To put this into perspective, 1 Quad BTU = 1 quadrillion British Thermal Units = 1.055 x 10^18 joules or 1.055 Exajoules.
2) Using the formula for Machine Efficiency found in CH-5 Energy Powerpoint presentation calculate the energy efficiency of the entire U.S. as if it were one large, complex machine with 91.4 Quad BTUs energy input. See the US Energy Sources chart for the useful energy output number (right side of chart), expressed in Quad BTUs.

3) Look through the chart and find the energy sources for transportation. What are they? Starting with what you found, give a brief opinion on how transportation and energy sources relate to our economic stability and future as a country. Is transportation important to our economy?
