Discussion Board Wollstonecraft & Mead

Topic: Discussion Board Wollstonecraft & Mead

Order Description

Both Wollstonecraft and Mead argue that gender distinctions and norms are created and propagated by society as opposed to being the result of genuine biological differences. The notion of biological differences being at the root of gender identity has been commonly employed to establish and defend an unequal power dynamic between men and women. Wollstonecraft is clearly opposed to gender differences, arguing for equality, while Mead believes that gender differences lend beauty and variety to a culture. Which view do you take? Why? Please use examples from the reading and/or examples from contemporary culture to support your position.
