Developing Community Leadership

Take-home Exam.IT IS MY LAST CHANCE TO PASS THIS UNIT PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE SURE YOU CAN DO IT VERY WELL.
Instructions:

Assignment: This take home exam is intended to facilitate the integration of theory and practice. Remember that leadership cannot be compartmentalised and that in answering a question you may draw upon all the material that has been covered in the unit. It is expected that you will use the readings provided and that you will also show that you have read more widely. Reference your answers and provide a bibliography at the end of each question just as you would in an essay. You may use whatever citation style you want. With citations styles, the important point is to be consistent. Support your claims with evidence.
Date Due: 1 February (Marks will be deducted from work received after this date.) Work may be submitted by email or put in the Sociology box in the Social Sciences Building (1st floor, north wing, Bush Court side).

Length: The minimum word limit for each question is approximately 1000 words. The total word count for each question should be appropriate to give a succinct and comprehensive answer. Where appropriate, you may use dot points and tables. What is important is that you demonstrate your ability to integrate theory and practice.

Put your NAME and student number in a header or footer of your work. If you are unable to use to a header/footer, then ensure that your name is on the first page of your written work. This is important if you email your work. I download all the files and print them. Your name may be on your email but if it isn’t visible on at least the first page of your work, I won’t know who has sent the assignment and you may not get a mark.
Criteria: See Study Guide, pg. 8

Answer the following question:

1. Using your presentation group as an example, describe the dynamics and processes which you observed as you prepared your presentation. This description may draw upon all the topics covered in the unit where these topics are relevant to your analysis. Remember that if you make a claim about your group, you need to support this claim by quoting specific observations taken from the notes/journal which you or your group made. As part of your answer, provide a SYMLOG diagram for your group, justifying your analysis from the primary evidence of your observations and group journal.

2. Examine your results from the States and Motivation for Leadership exercise.

Graph your results. For example:

What do you observe? Are these results expected? Are there anomalies in your results?

You may wish to classify the questions and then examine where you scored highest and lowest in each state. For example:

What do you observe? Are you consistent between states and have a particular orientation toward tasks or relationships? Or do you shift in your orientation toward tasks or relationships with different states?

In your analysis, use your reflections. What do you observe from doing this the States and Motivation for Leadership exercise? What implications can you draw from your observations for your leadership?

At the beginning of the unit, you were asked to assess your confidence on being able to change your state to suit the situation. Has your confidence changed, or not? What are the implications of this for your leadership?
