Choose one of the scenarios provided. Locate the brochure corresponding to the scenario from Blackboard. You need to carry out the following four tasks for your scenario.
Task 1: Database planning
Database planning: design an information database prototype that can serve as an information resource for the users in your scenario. Your database plan should contain the following components.
1. Information gathering.
2. Identify the entities/objects.
3. Use a visual modelling tool (like ERD’s) to model the entities/objects.
Document your design in text and with diagrams (approximately 900 words)
Task 2: Interface design
Based on the principles discussed in the Learning object- Human Computer Interaction, design and document a prototype of an interface for your proposed database (approximately 600 words).
This involves:
· Providing three to five illustrations that show your interface design
· Align your design to the HCI design principles and discussing how your design relates to them (design principles: visibility, constraints, feedback, consistency and affordance)
Task 3: Information Analysis
You need to carry out a semiotic analysis of the document your scenario is drawn from. Choose two attributes from one of the three semiotic disciplines of pragmatics, semantics and syntactic and analyse the document in terms of these attributes (approximately 300 words).
Task 4: Critical thinking around global implications
Identify the industry sector that your scenario is most closely identified to, for example travel agent = tourism industry. Develop an informed opinion about the impact of this industry sector’s operations in terms of one key global issue, e.g. sustainability or culture (i.e. has tourism affected local indigenous cultures, if so how and why?).
