In the Pacific Northwest the origin of some aquatic plant species remains a mystery (e.g., Nymphaea ordorata, Pontederia cordata, etc.) because they represent disjunct distributions – they are widely distributed on the east coast of North America but have much more restricted distributions here. Design a research program (one or more experiments) that will determine the origin of these disjunct populations. Including your population/geographic sampling design and sample sizes from each location. Describe the type of genetic information that you will need to collect from your samples to reach a robust conclusion.
