Compare and contrast the history of crime analysis with the history of crime mapping

Chapter one exercise 1: Using the crime analyst profiles in this chapter, compare and contrast the analysts’ 1. Education and experience, 2.Previous related work experience, 3. Breakdown of analysis responsibilities, and 4. overall impressions of being a crime analyst.

Exercise 2: Compare and contrast the history of crime analysis with the history of crime mapping. Why do you think their histories are different? What roles do research, technology, and recent innovations in policing play?

Chapter two exercises 1: Think of a situation in which a crime has occurred in your own life or in the life of a family member, friend, or acquaintance. Answer the following questions in relation to that crime event: 1.What was (or seemed to be) the offender’s motivation to commit the crime? 2. What was the nature of the place where the crime occurred? 3. What was the nature of the target or behavior of the victim during the crime? 4. How might the handlers, the guardians and managers have increased the opportunity for the crime to occur? 5. How might the crime have been prevented? (Focus on the opportunities that enabled the crime to occur. For the offender, could anything have increased the perceived effort, increased the perceived risks, or reduced the anticipated rewards?)
