Paper instructions:
You are to obtain construction drawings for a commercial building which should include
as a minimum:

1. Site Plan
2. Floor Plans (Ground and typical floor plan if a high rise)
3. Building Sections and Elevations

You have to prepare a building code analysis of the building that you selected and
review the drawings for code compliance; identify all major elements and specify
whether the documents comply or do not comply with the Florida Building Code at least in the following minimum aspects (which should include requirements from Chapter 1 through Chapter 12).

1. Building Occupancy as defined in Chapter 3.
2. Occupancy separations (if required).
3. Construction type in accordance with Chapter 6.
4. Building area, height and number of stories (analyze if the project could
have taken advantage of the allowable area increases specified in the
Code as specified on Chapter 5.
5. Determine fire resistivity requirements (exterior walls, interior walls, exit
enclosures, shafts, occupancy fire separations, etc.) per Chapter 7.
6. Determine Fire Protection Requirements (Automatic Fire Sprinklers,
Standpipes, fire alarm, smoke detectors, emergency power, etc.) as
mandated by Chapter 9.
7. Analyze the building for compliance with Chapter 10, Means of Egress on
the Common path, travel distance, dead corridors, etc.
8. Determine compliance with interior finishes specified in Chapter 8.
9. Analyze the building’s compliance with Chapter 12.

The above are only the minimum aspects that shall be analyzed by each student for
their selected building project. Additional aspects and analysis of other Chapters is
recommended and encouraged); e.g. Roofing, Structural design, materials, HVHZ
special considerations, etc. (it can be as comprehensive as you want it to be)
