Checkers Speech
For this part of the assignment, you will read Richard Nixon’s Checkers Speech and examine it for logical fallacies. Nixon, then a senator and vice presidential candidate, delivered the speech in response to accusations that he had misused political funds for personal purposes. Though the speech successfully endeared Nixon to the public, it has since become a prime example of fallacious argument.

For this part of the assignment, you will select a political ad and examine it for logical fallacies. You can view every single ad from the major candidates dating back from 1952 by going to www.livingroomcandidate.org. Once you have selected and examined your ad, respond to the following:
Which ad did you examine?
What logical fallacies, if any, did you find in the ad?
How were the logical fallacies used?
What is the overall impact of the fallacies?
Do the fallaces remind you of any current political arguments? If so, how?
