CALR ProjectI Kathleen McDonald OMalley was born in 1956 in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania. She is a federal judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit appointed by President Barrack Obama on 10 March 2010. She was nominated by President Obama on the same date to fill the vacated seat. Her predecessor was Alvin Schall. She was confirmed by the US Senate on December 23, 2010. She graduated with a Bachelors degree from Kenyon College in 1979 and later in 1982 received a Juris Doctor degree from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law. She has served as a law clerk at Honorable Nathaniel Joness, U.S. Court of Appeals office, Sixth Circuit, from 1982 to 1983. OMalley has also practiced law privately with the Porter, Wright, Morris and Arthur firm and in Cleveland at Jones Day firm. This was from 1983 to 1991. She was the Chief Counsel of the Attorney Generals office in the state of Ohio from 1991 to 1993. She later became the Chief of staff and the first assistant from 1993 to 1994. OMalley was later appointed a federal Judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, where she has been serving from 1994 to 2010 before her appointment by President Obama. She had been recommended by Ohio Senators John Glenn and Howard Metzenbaum and was appointed for the post by President Bill Clinton on September 20, 1994.
