Cylinder blocks are integrated structures that comprise of cylinders of reciprocating
engines as well as their surrounding structures (Hoag, 2012). The terms engine block is normally
used synonymously with the term cylinder block. This forms part of the machine elements that
comprises of the various parts such as cylinder heads, intake passages, exhaust passages, coolant
passages and cylinders among others. These elements are all integrated together to form a very
important part of the engine.
