Assessment Item 3 – Project Business Case

Assessment Item 3 – Project Business Case

Order Description

1750 word Project Business Case. This Project Business Case is the second of three individual written assessment items, to be prepared in accordance with the guidance in Chapter 5 of Zwikael, Ofer and Smyrk, John: Project Management for the Creation of Organisational Value. Springer, London, 2011, ISBN: 978-1-84996-515-6.

In assessment item 3 you are to explore the relationship between, on one hand, the target outcomes of a project (that justify a decision to undertake project work and commit project resources) and, on the other hand, the outputs of the project (the generation of which is the focus of project work and consumes project resources).

You are to convince the project funder to allocate resources to the project you championed in Assessment item 2 project brief (attached to this order). To this end you are to write 1750 words developing the business case for the project you selected for assessment item 2, taking into account the feedback you received on assessment item 2. Feedback comments are on the order attachment.

– Read the guidance for Assessment Item 3 carefully (attached to this order).
– Use the Indicative template and additional criteria provided in Appendix 3 of the guidance document (attached to this order).
– Pay attention to the structure of your argument
– Pay attention to the clarity of your drafting
– Use footnotes at each page and also a reference list at end of business case.
– You have to also compile a stakeholder register and a risk/issues register as an annexes in this Project business case. see additional guidance.

Zwikael & Smyrk use one example to illustrate the kind of analysis undertaken in preparing a stakeholder register and a risk/issues register. In accordance with this approach, I want you to outline key stakeholders and their stakes in your main document and in an annex pick one of those stakeholders and analyses how you plan to mange that stakeholder. Do the same for risks and issues.
The best way to handle the business case is to write it for a busy project funder who is unlikely to read more than the 1750 words you are allowed for the main text of your assessment item but who may wish to have the option of digging deeper by referring to annexes to the main text.
