Asserting power through political tactics

After getting into power, a leader can use political activities and tactics to consolidate their power. This is evident even from the fact that the political aspect of life is part of human life and cannot be done away with at any situation. Where there is leadership, there must be politics. This is achieved through considering that one is leading human beings who are able to think and, therefore; they know what is good and what is bad for them.

The whole aspect of consolidating power using political means is working with the people. Daft (2011) advises that a leader should be people friendly. The people who are being led should be incorporated in the process of decision making for them to conceptualize owning the idea. On influencing the people, it is important to consider developing people’s skills. This will give them a good opportunity to participate in the leadership. Their participation will lead to cooperation and loyalty. This will be in linewith developing friendships with people the leader is working with in order to influence them to become like them (Daft 2011). The rule of reciprocity cannot be left out in consolidating political power. The leader should make sure that they share what they have with the people. One should allocate time to be with the people and support them emotionally. After establishing what the leader wants, and how they want it done, the leader then should be bold enough to make the people they are leading understand the best way to work together. The leader should allow the people to know them, and also understand that they are human beings like them, with feelings and emotions.
