1.What negative academic effects, if any, do children experience as a result of both parents working? (Patton)In the first part of his paper, Patton would present this research question and his findings. Then, in the second part of the paper, he will attempt to answer a readers question: OK, but now what? What is the best way for us to act on these findings in terms of social policy or for me to act on them as one half of a dual-income family? Patton may have some thoughts on what the government or schools could/should change in light of these findings, but clearly this topic easily lends itself to the second, more personal, application, i.e., what we as parents should do in light of these findings. In fact, Patton did just that in his oral presentation. In his argumentative research paper, he will essentially do the same thing but will focus much more on building a strong argument which will persuade his readers to not merely grunt in semi-agreement, but to apply the findings and his recommendation/s to their own lives. To accomplish this, he will have to not only present his claim/s, his reasons, and his warrants, but he will also have to anticipate the logical objections of his audience as well as their non-logical reasons or excuses for not applying his recommendation/s.2.
