A Child Study (Narrative)

A Child Study (Narrative)
focus on one child for example “child x”

The child study (focusing on the holistic development of the child and including their social, emotional, physical, cognitive and language development)Reflect what you have observed including the child’s cultural context and then link all this to your reading.

Undertake one of Piaget’s tests ensuring that the age of the child is appropriate. This could be:
? Object permanence (Sensory –motor stage 0-2yrs)
? Understanding other’s different views (Pre-operational stage 1st Sub-stage 2-4yrs)
Consider whether or not the child shows evidence of Piaget’s research. Use developmental theory to support your conclusions.

Observe the interaction between your chosen child and a practitioner. Reflect on what you have observed. What evidence, if any, is there of Bruner’s concept of scaffolding.

Observe your chosen child in various situations:
? How they separate and re-unite with a prime carer
? To whom do they turn when distressed?
? What behaviors do they use to gain their key worker’s attention?
Link this to what you learnt of attachment theory.

Use Burner, Vygotsky and Piaget!!

EXAMPLE OF CHILD:
Keep the account as vivid a description as possible so that it paints a picture for the reader of exactly what was happening. Add fine detail for example, of tone and volume of voice, expressions on the children’s faces, the way they move and the act. So say,

‘Susie picked up the rattle, passed it from one hand to the other, gazing intently at it and turning it round till she was holding the rattle end. Then she brought it to her mouth and clamped her lips and gums around the handle”

Rather than: “Susie played with a rattle”
